Last official post of 2010

And so now we've come to the last official post of my first full year blogging! I had so much fun doing this and I hope that you guys did too and that maybe you learned something you didn't know before.

I met two of the three goals I had for 2010 and I think that's pretty darned good!  In case you were wondering, my goals were to write 2 books, acquire an agent, and to have a publishing contract.  Well, I wrote 2 books, started 2 others, finished a short story, and, of course, found my perfect agent.  Came pretty darned close to having a publishing contract, so...I guess it's really 2 1/2 out of 3 goals.  :D

This year I have some more writerly goals and I've decided to share them in the hopes it'll help me get them in the coming year!

1)  I want to write 3 books (finishing books from last year is fine) and 2 short stories

2)  I want to have one short story accepted somewhere

3)  I want to have a publishing contract

4)  I want to attend at least 1 writer's conference.

As you can see, I've upped the ante a bit there from what I accomplished this year.  I think it can be done.  Though, arguably 2 of those goals are out of my hands. So, those are the ones that I'm most worried about.

So, let's hear it.  What are your goals this year?

And to sweeten the pot, I'm holding one last contest.  But, I'm doing it different.  As always!  YOU get to pick the prize.  Sorta.  It's a book prize, not like a car or something.  :D  Just comment below with a goal and what book you want and I'll choose a random winner.  It is open internationally.  And, yes, you do need to be a follower of the blog, but that's easy.  Just click over to the left and become a follower.  :)

That being said, I hope you have a very happy new year!!

I don't have any writerly goals.. I am not a writer... Would love to try. Maybe.. I don't know..
But my goals for 2011 are to make it thru tax season (I'm an accountant & own my own firm).. Run a 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles under 2 hours), learn to surf, wakeboard a lot, spend time with the family and read more then 200 books this year... Wow that is a lot of stuff to do... guess I better get working...

As far as what book I would want... OMG I have 17 pages of must read books and that doesn't count the ones not out yet... I think the one I am most looking forward to is Lover Unleashed by JR Ward... or Deeper than Midnight by Lara Adrian... But I would be happy to win any book...

Thank you for a chance to win.. Have a great 2011!!!!

LOL, Kelly. I guess I should adjust that to say goals. Period. It doens't have to be writerly goals. But good luck with tax season *shudder*. That is one job I wouldn't want and I think it takes a special person to be able to do that! And good luck with reading 200 books! At least there's a lot to choose from. :D

Yeah, Tax season is a bear.. but it is what I do... Only problem is I work 12-15 hour days 7 days a week for the next 4 months... Doesn't leave much time to do anything else.... but I guess that is life.....
:)
Not huge goals. Finish the current book (revisions), write one or two more (although there's a half draft already done, so it'll likely be two), then have at least two of said books making the agent rounds. Hopefully my perfect agent will come along. But I'll take a nice rejection too.

As for books (I'm a sucker for contests ^_^) - how about Incarceron by Catherine Fisher?

You know? I haven't read that book, yet. I'll have to add it to my ever-growing list. Good luck! Oh, and those are some great goals!
Congratulations on your year. My resolution is to turn " – your writing is strong and the concept interesting but that said I don’t think I’m the right agent for you" into the phone-call-type response.
Wow. I'm having issues leaving a comment! Those are great goals.

I only have one writer-ly goal this year. To finish my current WIP and have it ready for submission by the end of March.

As for a book... maybe the Hunger Games. Pretty sure I'm the only person alive who hasn't read it yet.

Thanks for the contest. For this year, I'd like to get "Mrs. Zimmerman's Donuts" into a querying state and send it out to the agent that fits best. . . and he or she will say, "Yes," of course.

As for a book, I want to read "Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

Thanks! I hope I win.

Actually that e-mail address is a (dot)net . . . and I haven't even started drinking yet.
Hey, GREAT goals!
Mine:
1. Finish my WIP that I started in May (seriously, I usually don't take this long!). I'm 2/3 done.
2. Get an agent (a little beyond my control, but hey, it was on your list too for this last year)
3. Remember that I have a piano and actually PLAY it.
4. Develop my new writerly buddies in the blogging community
5. Get another experienced critique partner for ms swaps (I'm down to 2; more is nice)
6. Start exercising on a regular schedule

I'd like to win/read: MATCHED by Ally Condie....or as a second choice, The DUFF by Kody Keplinger.

Hmm, for comment moderation, it's on Settings>Comments, scroll down the page and click "Never" for Comment Moderation. That SHOULD do it, but maybe yours is set up differently? Because on other blog sites, they don't have the Name, Email, and Website stuff you have to fill in, either. Good luck, and Happy New Year 2011!!!!
Happy New Year! I'm a new follower. My goals for the new year: mostly, get an agent. Also, finish my second book, and start another. As for writing conferences, I am attending the World Fantasy Convention in October in San Diego. I've heard it's an awesome one! Hmmm... if I win, how about Fallen by Lauren Kate?
I blogged about this yesterday. I'll just name a few off the list....

-Edit the Nano novel
-Work on sequel of the Nano novel
-Write the book that I’ve been holding back on for quite awhile
-Try reading books from genres I don’t usually read from
-Going to France
-Reading more books from 2011 debut authors
-Eating healthier
-Writing more frequent blog posts

Happy New Years!! :)
